Storm Preparedness

When severe weather is predicted, we make preparations to ensure that crews are ready to respond. It’s important for you to prepare for storms, too, in order to protect your life, your loved ones, and your property.

One of the best ways to stay informed about your electricity before, during, and after a storm is to “like” Coastal Electric Cooperative on Facebook and follow us on Twitter.

Check Supplies

Have your emergency supply kit readily available. Review our list of everything you should need in the event of a power outage.

Stay Informed

Listen to local radio stations and watch local television as much as possible (and as long as you have power) to stay on top of current conditions.

Get Cash

Get a reasonable amount of cash. Automatic teller machines will also be shut off if the power goes off and credit card machines may not work.

Plan an Evacuation

Review your evacuation plan, and map out both routes and alternate routes. Have the phone numbers of destinations with you.

Watch the Wind

In a hurricane, all windows need to be covered with pre-cut plywood or installed shutters. Tape does not provide protection.

Fill Your Gas Tank

Fill your gas tank before a storm arrives, as gas pumps do not work if electricity is out unless the station has a generator.
