Local students complete summer learning program at Coastal Electric

We love investing in the next generation ... and giving students a glimpse of the many rewarding careers found at electric co-ops!

This summer, we had the privilege to work with Alexis Rivera, a senior at Long County High School. Alexis completed our Learners Today, Leaders Tomorrow program, and spent his summer with our IT Department.

Alexis already knew a bit about Coastal Electric Cooperative, as his mother, Nadia, serves as one of our helpful customer service reps. During his time in IT, Alexis learned troubleshooting, helped update phones and computers, and explored how substations tie in with IT.

Our Engineering and Operations Department was glad to welcome Noah Atkinson as a summer engineering intern. He is a 2021 graduate of Richmond Hill High School and recently attended Georgia Southern University and is transferring to the University of Georgia this fall.

Noah is majoring in mechanical engineering. During his time at Coastal Electric, Noah shad- owed employees in various roles in the Engineering and Operations Department, gaining hands-on experience with staking, mapping, electrical engineering formulas, efficiency and budgeting.

Noah even researched and analyzed data for an outdoor lighting project plan that the co-op can use to maximize savings on outdoor lighting.
